1. About the Dulles bag
A Dulles bag is a briefcase whose opening is secured with a metal frame.
It is known for an opening that spreads wide, and because doctors and lawyers once carried this style, it came to be commonly called a Dulles bag in Japan.
2. About the craftsmanship
Because it is an all-leather bag, every step takes great care, including wrapping the metal frame at the opening in leather. It is a bag that conveys the warmth and presence of genuine leather.
You can feel the clean, functional design and the way it lets the material, the very origin of craftsmanship, speak for itself.
Each Noan Dulles bag is made carefully and with heart, one at a time, by a skilled bag maker in old-town Tokyo where craftsmanship has been carried on across two generations of the same family.
A “made in japan” stamp expresses that dedication.
Unlike its substantial look, it is remarkably light (a little over 700g), and care has gone into every detail, such as the balanced grip of the handle that stays comfortable even for women to carry.
3. About the leather
It uses cowhide nume leather tanned with tannin, the oldest method, in Himeji, Hyogo, a leading center of Japan’s leather industry.
Nume leather is known for its durability and the way it ages over time.
At first it is firm and stiff, but with continued use it softens into your hand, and exposure to sunlight and other elements produces the color change known as aging.
Natural scratches and wrinkles in the leather become part of its character and enhance the bag itself, making it a material you naturally grow attached to as a user.
Because it is a product of nature’s bounty, no two hides are alike and there may be scratches or vein marks, but nume leather is created through a one-of-a-kind process that lets you feel the warmth and expression of the leather.
